On April 21, we received a notification that Freeport-McMoRan Oil & Gas was going to conduct an acidization job at the drill site in 2 days. We quickly rallied our Rapid Response Team together, contacted residents who lived adjacent to the site, and organized a successful protest Thursday morning. Although FMOG cancelled the acid job 15 minutes before the trucks would normally arrive, our message was still an important one to voice:
Oil drilling sites are fundamentally an incompatible land-use with a residential neighborhood!
We had about 3 dozen protesters and got coverage on all the major networks in LA! Thank you all who came out and participated in the demonstration!
You can see video clips and articles covering the protest at LA Times, CBS, ABC, and LA Streetsblog.
