History: 1965-1973 - Establishing an Oil Drilling Site
ZA Case 17528 - April 29, 1965
The Jefferson Drill site is established by Union Oil Company in a 2-acre site in Oil Drilling District No. U-124, which was established by Ordinance 129760 in March 1965. This "mother" Zoning Administration (ZA) case included authority to drill 2 exploratory wells in U-124. It also outlines the 21 conditions by which the site may operate.

1965-1967: Subsequent Exploration and Expansion
1967 - 1973: Re-drilling and Re-bottoming
Overtime, the oil wells may cease producing oil from the particular location where the bottom hole ends underneath the ground. When that is the case, the oil company will often ask for a "re-drilling." While the well head, or where the start of the well meets the surface remains the same, the end or bottom of the well is re-drilled to end in a deeper location of the earth than previously in the same area or "moved" as far as another urban oil drilling district.
The result is a messy web of old unused wells and new wells all branching in different directions searching for oil underground. |
The Jefferson Drill site began requesting re-drills as early as 1967. A "re-drill" it is not considered a new well, although the bottom hole will end in a different location. Based on municipal document findings thus far, there are no cases associated with the Jefferson Drill Site after 1974 until 1994. |
