About Make Jefferson Beautiful
Make Jefferson Beautiful is a community-initiated campaign to make
Jefferson Blvd a pedestrian and bicycle friendly street for families and
businesses.
Redeemer Community Partnership has a long history of engaging residents and local business owners on Jefferson Blvd. in efforts to enhance the safety, beauty, and health of the corridor. These efforts have included planting trees, painting murals, installing LED street lighting, closing nuisance liquor stores and more. |
Make Jefferson Beautiful is our campaign to beautify and activate a neglected commercial corridor immediately west of the university. Some improvements we are working towards include the planting and watering of new street trees; the repair of some of the worst of the broken sidewalks; the hanging of flowers on light poles; the restoration and protection of murals; the repainting of curbs.
This campaign seeks to enhance the beauty, safety and health of the community by revitalizing a major corridor, facilitating active modes of transportation (such as walking and biking), and activating the commercial environment for local businesses. |

Another important part of Make Jefferson Beautiful is our community's ongoing efforts around the Jefferson Drill Site. This website serves as an informational center of the research and outlines concerns we have around the active oil drilling/extraction site in the middle of our neighborhood.
Environmental conditions can have long-term consequences for our well-being, so addressing these conditions is key to healthy communities. We have witnessed tanker trucks labeled with toxic and corrosive chemicals arrive at the drill site in front of homes, smelled the foul stench of fumes, and heard the deafening den of pipes being driven into the ground. Close proximity to an oil drilling site is linked to higher risk of cancer and respiratory diseases, and odors and noise pollution adversely impact quality of life and increase stress. It is not fair that children, families, and residents in our neighborhood bear a disproportionate burden of the adverse impacts of the Jefferson Drill Site. We can stand together against neighborhood oil drilling by making our voices heard to decision makers that oil drilling sites are fundamentally incompatible land-use with residential neighborhoods and encourage them to choose community health over corporate wealth. |
